Our Story
Who are we?
We are a family team, following a dream. (yes, it’s a little cheesy i know).
It all started with me - Lucy. I’m a mum of two, creative, unknowingly ambitious, and always full of ideas. Alongside me is my dad, David, who's been my biggest supporter from the beginning. He’s my sounding board, keeps me grounded when ideas go wayward, and looks after much of the behind-the-scenes admin.
My passion has always been finding ways to make life a little better, easier, more memorable for my children - whether that’s making something for them, planning daft days out, or going totally over the top for birthdays.
As they grew into tweens and a teenager, I realised these age groups are often overlooked. Yet these years are so important for building confidence, creativity and independence.
Why hooded towels for older children?
It began with my then 6-year-old in the chilly bathroom, trying to brush his teeth while holding a towel around himself. Remembering the hooded towel he had as a baby I searched for an older child version, but couldn’t find one.
So, I decided to make one myself.
I designed, refined and then redesigned each version, with my children testing every prototype along the way. We wanted towels that felt genuinely luxurious, thick, fluffy and beautifully soft, because older kids deserve this level of quality.
Hence the launch of Simply for Kids!
We’re continually looking...
Simply for Kids has alway been about more than the towels. My hope is to continue creating thoughtful, high-quality products for older kids - things that they would like or make life more independent. There are lots of ideas still waiting in numerous notebooks, I’m just fitting them around family life.
Introducing the Makery Nook: art & craft classes for tweens and teens.
Creativity has always been part of who I am. From studying Art at A Level and university, to trying about every craft imaginable - ceramics, silversmithing, photography, leatherwork, block printing, oil painting and so much more. I’m definitely more of a creative explorer than someone who specialises in just one medium.
Over the years I've realised that older children often have fewer opportunities to create without pressure. They've grown out of the glitter, unicorns and rainbows, but they're still at an age where making something with their hands can build confidence, develop new skills and give them a chance to switch off from the pressures of everyday life.
That's exactly what I hope The Makery Nook will become: a welcoming place in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, where young people can experiment, learn new skills and discover that creativity isn't about being "good at art”, it's about having a go.
So that's our story so far.
Thank you for supporting a small family business, it really does mean the world to us. We hope you'll join us as Simply for Kids and The Makery Nook continue to grow.
